The No. 18 ranked Kansas Jayhawks women’s soccer team heads to Lincoln, Nebraska Friday for its first non-home road tests of the season.

The Jayhawks are competing in the Husker Invitational. They open with Friday night’s game against the Oregon State Beavers, then play the Oregon Ducks Aug. 26.

Friday’s game can be heard on the IMG Jayhawk Radio Network or via webcast at KUAthletics.com/radio. No viewing options were availably

So far this season, the Jayhawks are 2-0, having beaten then No. 18-ranked Pepperdine 1-0 on Aug. 17. They followed that up with a 3-0 win against South Dakota State.

A win for the Jayhawks would give them their first 3-0 record since 2014. The Jayhawks won their first eight that year, finished with a 15-6 record, a year that ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a 3-1 loss to Missouri.

Junior Katie McClure leads the team offensively, with two goals and one assist on four shots (three on goal) this season. Her stats during the opening week of the season earned her Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week accolades.

The veteran team returned 17 letterwinners and seven starters from last year’s squad, but has relied so far on a freshman in net.

Freshman Sarah Peters has played all 180 minutes of game action for the Jayhawks this year. She has made four saves, allowing zero goals. She is the first true freshman goalkeeeper to ever start her career with two straight clean sheets.

Friday’s game will be the third ever in the series between the two teams. KU won the last meeting in 2017 to tie the series at 1-1 all time.

The Beavers are 0-2 this season, having opened the year with a 1-0 loss to Clemson then a 2-1 overtime loss to Stony Brook.

Big 12 play hasn’t started yet, but the Jayhawks are one of four teams from the Big 12 to be ranked in the most recent United Soccer Coaches’ poll.

Baylor is ranked No. 17 (one spot ahead of Kansas), Texas is ranked No. 21 and West Virginia is ranked No. 25.
