Starting the year off on a strong note, the Conquistador men's golf team was able to finish in fifth place in the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo.

CSU-Pueblo came out on top, posting a total score of 852 (-12) on the tournament, followed closely by New Mexico Junior College who posted an 854 (-10). The other two teams to finish in front of Dodge City were Lubbock Christian University 859 (-5) and Colorado Mesa 862 (-2).

With Dodge City posting a score of 872 (+8), they beat out New Mexico Military Institute 893 (+29), Fort Lewis College 897 (+33) and South Dakota School of Mines 916 (+52).

Saksit Jairak and Stanley Lewis both finished tied for seventh on the tournament with Jairak posting scores of 72, 69 and 73. In the two rounds on day one, Lewis posted scores of 72 and 76, but found his rhythm in the third round to shoot six under par at 66.

Danny Taggart finished 20th on the tournament at +6, while Logan Durst and Chris Rushton finished tied for 28th and tied for 33rd respectively.

Dodge City also had three golfers competing as individuals over the weekend, with Luke Gleason finishing tied for 43rd, Tye Wilson finishing tied for 50th and Hayden Garcia finishing in 52nd.

The Conquistador men's golf team will be in action again on Sept. 9-11 as they travel to McPherson, Kan., for the Central Kansas Classic.
