The Dodge City Conquistadors men’s soccer team lost for the first time in nearly a month Wednesday, falling to the Cloud County T-Birds 4-2.

It was the first time the Conqs had lost since Sept. 8, when the team lost 2-1, that day also against Cloud County.

On a day in which temperatures rose into the 90’s, the Conquistadors fell behind 2-0 in the first half but scored twice, tying the game by halftime. In the second half, however, the Conquistadors were outscored 2-0 and were unable to pull off another two-goal comeback.

The T-Birds got on the board first 28:58 left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead, then expanded that lead with 16:45 left in the first to 2-0.

With 12:17 left in the half, a Conquistador free kick from near the 35-yard line got tipped in for a score by freshman defender Hugo Torregrossa, cutting the Conqs’ deficit to 2-1.

The Conquistadors tied it on a corner kick, which was headed in by sophomore forward Anthony Bolivar with 1:55 left in the first half. That score held into halftime.

In the second half, the T-Birds took the lead back when freshman forward Jean-Pierre Dasylva got around a defender and put the ball in the back of the net with 40:17 remaining in regulation play.

The T-Birds scored again with 28:42 left in the second half to take a 4-2 lead.

With the loss, the Conqs fall to 8-3-1 overall this season.

On the women’s side, the Conquistadors trailed 4-0 at halftime on the way to 7-0 loss to the T-Birds, Wednesd.

Cloud County dominated possession throughout the day, scoring their seventh goal on a penalty kick with 3:25 left in the second half.
