The Dodge City Conquistadors men’s golf team won the Kansas Wesleyan Fall Invite at Salina Country Club.
The invitational took place Oct. 1-2. Dodge City finished with a score of 570, good for 10-over-par through the two days and two strokes ahead of second-place finisher Kansas Wesleyan.
Saksit Jairak led the scoring, for the Conquistadors, winning the event with 5-under-par 65 Tuesday.
A double bogey on 10 was the only blemish on Jairak’s scorecard Tuesday. He opened the round with a birdie on one, a birdie on three and a birdie on four, and finished with birdies on 12, 16 and 18.
Danny Taggart shot a 144, finishing sixth. Stanley Lewis shot a 145 finishing seventh. Chris Rushton finished tied for eighth with a 146. Anupon Wandee shot a 151, landing him in 17th place. Ty Wilson shot a 154, finishing tied for 21st, and Logan Durst finished in 28th with a 157.
It bears noting that only the top five scorers (Jairak, Durst, Lewis, Taggart and Rushton) counted toward the team’s score, while the others were considered “participating as an individual.”
Also worth noting was that of those five players, Taggart had the lone eagle of the final day, scoring a three on the par-5 third hole.
It was the team’s second straight first-place finish, and their second of the last three events. They finished fifth place at CSU Pueblo Sept. 2-4.
The Conqs are next in action Oct. 7-9 at the Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg, Nebraska for the NJCAAA District III Preview.
