The Dodge City Red Demons girls golf team is going to State this year.

The Red Demons finished second in the Garden City Regional Monday, beating Derby and the rest of the field except for Garden City, which finished first.

Head coach Jim Mapel said via email that it was by far the team’s best effort this season.

We were so proud of our players and how they handled the adverse conditions on a challenging golf course,” Mapel said. “They were prepared to compete mentally, as well as physically. They earned the reward of a trip to the state tournament.”

Senior Breanna Galindo shot a 100, good for fifth individually overall. Fellow-senior Olivia Gregg shot a 109, good for ninth.

Junior Ella Friess shot a 111, freshman Reanna Bartlett-Konrade shot a 123, freshman Tiley Fry shot a 130 and sophomore Valeria Aquierre shot a 156.

State takes place at Salina Municipal Golf Course Oct. 15.
