For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the Dodge City Conquistadors are 2-0.

The Conquistadors beat the Bethany College JV Swedes Monday night by a score of 106-89. Through two games, the Conqs are averaging 114 points per game, the most since before the 2014-15 season.

The last time the Conqs started 2-0, that 2016-17 season, they also averaged over 100 points through two games, scoring 104 in the first and 105 in the their second for an average of 104.5 points per game.

This season’s team, is scoring even faster, and Monday night’s game never seemed in doubt. The Swedes cut the Conquistador lead to just a point in first half, hitting a shot to make the score 30-29, but sophomore forward Jyrus Freels hit back-to-back free throws to expand the lead back out to three.

From there, the Conqs it was never again a one-possession game, as the Conquistadors rolled. They took a 52-41 lead into halftime. The second half was never close.

The Conqs head to Liberal to take on Western Oklahoma State College and South Plains College in the Pepsi Classic Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 before hosting the Conq Classic Nov. 16 and Nov. 17.
