The Dodge City Community College Board of Trustees approved a resolution Tuesday authorizing the sale of revenue bonds for $5.06 million. The bonds will fund a new dormitory.
Dorm fees will pay for the bond, said Trustee Morris Reeves. Ultimately, if something else happens, the college will be liable for the debt. DCCC has 25 years to pay off the debt.
July occupancy at the current dorms is 47 students, mainly made up of football players, said Bev Temaat, associate dean of students. She said the dormitory is at 18 percent of capacity and noted that in July, officials shoot for 15 to 20 percent capacity. So they're right on the mark.
As of now, there are 141 new contracts for freshmen, and 55 sophomores are returning to the dorms. Temaat said compared to last year, they are a little behind, but they are getting four to five contracts a day.

Plans for a future dorm call for a five-phase project which includes building a storage and maintenance building west of Sheldon Hall, demolishing Sites-Franklin, Russel-Revitte and Gleekler-Zollars Halls and renovating Sheldon and Coleman-Webb Halls, said Rick Druse, director of marketing and public information.
