The Dodge City Community College Conquistadors volleyball team improved to 4-2 overall on the season and 1-1 in Jayhawk Conference play after a 4-1 performance in the Colby Classic tournament at Colby Community College over the weekend.
DCCC defeated North Platte 23-25, 25-23, 15-13, lost to Laramie County 21-25, 20-25 and topped Otero 25-23, 25-21 to finish play Friday.
Dodge beat Colby 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22 Saturday to grab its first conference win of the season, and followed that with a 25-27, 25-22, 15-13 win over Lamar.
One of Dodge head coach Shaun Pohlman's key fill-ins for injured captain Janelle Burnett, freshman Allison Taylor, led the team with 35 kills during the five-game competition. Emma Filiaga tallied 33, while Emeline Tuakalau and Dodge City-native Jamisha Johnson recorded 29 and 24, respectively.
The Conqs will take on rival Garden City Friday in La Junta, Colo.
