The Dodge City Community College women's soccer team fell 2-1 at Pratt Tuesday, but the Lady Conqs cleared a major hurdle in scoring their first goal of the 2010 season.
Following a Pratt goal less than three minutes into the game, Sandra Rodriguez scored for the Lady Conqs in the 12th minute to tie the contest 1-1.
Ariel Snyder was credited with the assist on the goal.
Pratt's Nikki Sprinkle scored in the 37th minute to give Pratt a 2-1 lead for good.
"I feel like we were over-confient, we were relaxed on defense," DCCC head coach Becca Crawford said. "I don't think they were expecting much from Pratt's offense.”
Added Crawford, "We weren't really ready to play. We had multiple opportunities (to score again)."
The Lady Conqs defense "stepped up" in the second half, shutting out an opponent in a half for the first time this season.
Still, Crawford said the game's outcome was mostly negative.
"It's hard to lose one you know you could have or should have won," she said.
DCCC was shut out in its first two games, 3-0 against Northwest College and 7-0 versus Cisco College.
The Lady Conqs' next game is Sept. 2 against Hutchinson at the St. Mary's Sports Complex.
