On Saturday, the Dodge City Middle School Cardinals wrestling team was back in action at the Liberal Dual Tournament.
Dodge City finished 1-4 in the team tournament format. Despite what their record showed, the Cardinals wrestled hard against some stiff competition, according to DCMS head coach Justin Coffey.
The Cardinals were led by Victor Ortiz (5-0), Jacob Trabert (4-1), CJ Hernandez (4-1), and Brett Wilson (3-1).
"The final score on the board was a little disappointing today," Coffey explained. "But it is positively exciting to watch this young team grow up before your eyes.
"We took some hard knocks against some tough competitors today, but we continued to improve, and I think we'll have a real tough team before its all said and done."
The Cardinals will take a short break from competition and return to the mat on Saturday, Dec. 5.
