The Dodge City High School soccer team won its second game of the season Monday, defeating Rose Hill 4-0 in the first round of the Titan Classic, which is held on the Wichita South Campus.
“I think we’re pretty close to being right where we want to be,” DCHS head coach Virgil Hutchcraft said. “I thought we could have probably scored a few more goals today. We controlled the possession of the game, I would say by 80 percent today. Even when we were against the wind we controlled it pretty good. …I think four goals is good, but I think we were capable of scoring a few more today.”
Carlos Luna scored two of the Dodge City goals, and now has three on the season.
“We seem to be getting stronger as we go,” Hutchcraft said. “I was a little worried going into Rose Hill because they finished fourth in their division at state. I thought they would be a pretty good fight.”
Luna gave the Red Demons a 1-0 lead going into halftime scoring off an assist by Hendrick Kronsbein in the 32nd minute.
Victor Millan, Allen Rojas and Luna all scored in the second half.
Dodge City will play its second game of the tournament on Wednesday against Emporia at 4 p.m. who won its first game 2-1 against Wichita North.
“From what we saw, they are probably similar to Rose Hill,” Hutchcraft said. “So if we come out with the right attitude and the right energy, we should be all right.”
