After destroying the Minneola High School Wildcats in the first round of the 8-Man, Division I playoffs on Tuesday night, the Greensburg Rangers now advance to the second round of playoffs on Saturday.
The Rangers (6-4) will take on the Clifton-Clyde Eagles (9-1) in Greensburg at 4 p.m.
“We’re extremely grateful for the opportunity to play” Greensburg coach Clint Young said. “It’s going to be a tough match-up. They are extremely big. But it’s the same thing as before. We’ve got nothing to fear and nothing to lose.”
Greensburg is taking their postseason appearances one game at a time, trying not to look too far in the future.
“If we play well and compete, we’ll look for another game,” Young said. “But we’re just taking this one game at a time.”
The Rangers are led by Nathan Charlton, who averages 218.2 rushing yards per game. Just against Minneola, Charlton had 254 yards and four touchdowns.
But Young isn’t going to count on Charlton to get them through the tough match-up.
“It’s going to take an entire team effort,” Young said. “There is not one guy on their (Clifton-Clyde) team that we’ll need to try and stop. They have 8 solid kids on the field.”
Brayden Bloomfield leads the Eagles in both rushing and passing yards, averaging 149.4 yards per game. The Eagles are ranked fourth in the state, according to Max Preps.
Greensburg is thankful to play at home in for the second round of playoffs.
“It’ll be nice to make the drive,” Young said. “I think we’ll have a big crowd and it’ll be nice to have that support.”
