Seven teams converged on Mariah Hills on Saturday for a Class 6A regional meet, all hoping to qualify for state.
Both Dodge City High School's boys and girls teams had something to celebrate after hosting regionals over the weekend.
The top three teams earn a trip to state, as well as the top ten individuals not on a qualifying team.
The girls team took third place, automatically qualifying for Saturday's Class 6A state meet at Rim Rock Ranch outside of Lawrence.
The boys team didn't fare as well, with senior Peter Neidhart qualifying instead of the whole team as they had hoped.
"Peter ran good," DCHS boys coach Buc Bolmer said. "I'm a little disappointed. We could have ran better and done better, but we've got a lot of good kids returning next year."
The DCHS girls had two members finish in the top 10 to qualify as individual.
Senior Maria Schmidt took sixth, and junior Rosie Botello finished ninth.
"We had a couple of girls, Erica Ramos and Rosie Botello, who just ran really exceptional on Saturday," DCHS girls coach Brian Lenz said. "The whole team ran well, but those two ran better than I had imagined they could."
Freshman Ramos finished 11th overall.
"I took a group of girls to regionals that only one of them had competed in regionals last year," Lenz said. "It's so exciting to get through it as well as we did."
Bolmer, although disappointed, said he was happy with the season overall. He said he would have liked to see Fred Ruiz qualify. However, he said that Ruiz will return next year, along with several strong runners.
"I'm hoping for Peter to medal at state," Bolmer said. "The top 20 earn medals at state."
