The Dodge High Red Demon girls track team shot out of the gates Friday at its first meet in Liberal.
The girls team, which took the team title at Liberal by 64 points, found a good portion of its success in the sprint events. Dodge's Kierra Johnson, Courtney Brady and DaShonda Johnson took first, second and third, respectively, in the 100-meter dash.
Kierra Johnson and DaShonda Johnson went one-two in the 200-meter as well. With Kierra anchoring, the 4x100-meter relay team took the gold as well.
Demon hurdlers Lauren Marshall, Mallory Ratts and Brighton Cavillere took first, third and fourth respectively in the 100-meter to help give Dodge its sizable lead.
But the Demons also showed well in field events and in distance running. Erin Sughroue and Samantha Shirley placed first and third respectively in the high jump, while Sophie Shaull and Sughroue went two-three in the long jump.
Shaull and DaShonda Johnson took gold and silver in the triple jump as well.
The Red Demon boys team took second place, finishing 22.5 points behind the hosting Liberal Redskins. The Redskins showed strength in sprints and relays but placed well in events all over the track to preserve the win.
Dodge's Toby Boese and Taggart Ketron placed first and second respectively in the 200-meter dash, while Joe Butcher got a win in the 800-meter.
Demon distance runner Vincente Estrella took first in the 1,600-meter run as well. Boese and Dodge's Seth Bush took first and third, respectively, in the 300-meter hurdles.
In the field events, Ole Weyand and Darious Martinez went one-two in the triple jump.
