    The Dodge City High Red Demons girls tennis team opened the 2009 season Thursday as the Demons hosted the Dodge City JV Invitational.
    The Dodge Red team of Kelly Brauer, Katy Salmans, Jamie Groth, Ashton Moore, Amanda Hatfield and Morgan Schaller placed first overall out of ten teams, while the Blue team of Latara Hardy, Landy Flores, Natalie Fuentes, Alma Garcia, Katherine Keene and Allison Smith finished sixth on the day.
    In No. 1 singles play, Brauer went undefeated to finish first, while Salmans grabbed the top spot in No. 2 singles.
    Groth and Moore teamed up and did not lose a single set en route to a win in No. 1 doubles play, and Hatfield and Schaller paced the field in No. 2 doubles.
    Hardy and the team of Fuentes and Garcia both earned third-place finishes in No. 1 singles and No.1 doubles play, respectively.
    DCHS varsity girls tennis opens its season on the road at Great Bend Sept. 8 and will host the Dodge City Invitational Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
