It was a winning day for Red Demons football.
Both the Dodge City High School freshman and junior varsity teams beat the Garden City Buffaloes on Monday to finish their season.
The freshman finished 4-4, but the perfect season went to the JV team, finishing 7-0.
In the freshman game, the Demons beat the Buffs 12-6. The first touchdown of the game came from an eight yard pass to Dylan Vogel from Zach Kirby. Blaise Tate then returned a fumble for a touchdown in the third quarter to seal the victory.
"I'm real proud of how we responded the last few weeks," coach Dustin Fergerson said. "A win for the last game of the season really gives us momentum going in to the off-season."
The JV Demons had the lead most of the game, finishing 44-34 to give them the pefect season. Jared Helfrich threw five touchdown passes, three to Josh Ginther.
Ginther also returned a kickoff for a touchdown. With 2:57 remaining, he kicked a 27-yard field goal, the last points of the game to give them the 10-point lead and the win.
Parker Davis also completed a touchdown pass during the game.
"I'm sure a lot of people didn't expect this kind of season," Fergerson said. "But our kids showed up and took care of business every game. Whether it was on the road or at home. We believed we had a good team, and are thrilled with a perfect season."
