DODGE CITY —

The Dodge City Community College Conquistador men's soccer team got a little quicker Thursday with the signing of two Dodge City High School midfielders.
Team speed was lacking for the Conqs in 2008, as the team went 2-11-1. But twin Red Demon speedsters Fabian and Julian Sanchez will bring the agility to the Conqs next year that helped the Demons earn a state tourney berth in 2008.
Fellow Red Demon midfielder Andrew De La Torre has verbally committed to DCCC as well. He will join his older brother Raul, who played his first season as a defender at the junior college in 2008.
"We're really taking the next step as a program with these signings," said DCCC coach Tim Romanello. "These players are going to add a lot of foot skill in the middle for us."
Fabian Sanchez started all 18 games for the Demons in the 2008 season and scored eight goals. Julian scored two goals in 15 games.
Andrew De La Torre started four games, played in all 18 games and scored twice as well.
"These guys can definitely help make an improvement for coach Romanello," DCHS soccer coach Virgil Hutchcraft said. "For their talent to be recognized by the next level is a dream for these guys, and helping them accomplish that dream is very gratifying as a coach."
The Conq men's soccer team is growing into a family affair going into Romanello's second season at the helm. The Sanchez twins are the second pair of brothers that the Conqs will feature next year.
"For me, it's a really good thing," Julian said. "I want to play with [Fabian] as long as I can."
Romanello added: "With these two specific players, they've played all their lives together, so they know which one likes the ball on what side of the foot and where. Knowing where teammates are going to be and where they want the ball is extremely important in the game of soccer."
