Some losses hurt more than others.
Luckily, the 2-1 loss against the Wichita East Blue Aces doesn't really affect the Dodge City High School Red Demons varsity soccer team in the long run.
    Just a temporary setback.
The Demons had a shot at the win since they led 1-0 at halftime. A stellar goal by Victor Millan off a cross-kick from Jean-Damien Bouyer gave them that early lead.
But they got down in the second half off of a couple of free kicks by the Blue Aces, some free kicks that may have been controversial, according to DCHS coach Virgil Hutchcraft.
"We didn't really feel like they were fouls," Hutchcraft said. "But they played well enough to win. We just came out a little too flat as a team. They left it too close."
Even with the non-conference loss to the Blue Aces on Monday, the Demons are  in second place in the Western Athletic Conference and hope to tie for first on Thursday with a win over Liberal. Thursday's match against the Redskins determines the WAC championship.
"I hope we can bounce back for Liberal," Hutchcraft said. "We need to be ready for Thursday."
The Demons are 12-3 overall, 6-1 in the WAC.
The DCHS junior varsity had good fortune, beating the Blue Aces 4-3.
Both teams head to Liberal on Thursday to wrap up the regular season.
