The Dodge City High School soccer team continued its solid play Thursday night as the Red Demons hit the road and took down Wichita Heights 2-0.
For the Demons, it was their second straight clean sheet and victory by that score.
Once again, the blustery winds played a crucial part in deciding how the game was managed and played, with DCHS taking advantage of the downwind opportunity in the first half.
With around 14 minutes to go in the first, Armando Hipolito assisted defenseman Hector Navarro to give the road squad a 1-0 lead.
As the teams switched sides for half number two, Head Coach Virgil Hutchcraft made a formation change to combat his team playing into the breeze.
"For the second half, we only played with one forward and more midfielders," Hutchcraft said. "The idea was to pack the middle and play more of a possession game with the lead."
Down 1-0 and with the wind, the Falcons decided to abandon their possession approach and attempted to use the wind as an aid, lofting balls down the field and going for that home run shot.
But the Demons were quick to win each long pass and then control the ball with their plethora of midfielders.
With 11 minutes to go in the second half, the Demons used Wichita Heights' aggressive attack against them, countering their offensive attack. Junior Rene Yeverino buried the nail in the coffin to seal the game for Dodge.
The Demons move to 9-3 on the season with the victory, and they will face off against Great Bend Oct. 11 at home.
