The Dodge City High School girls golf team took part in its state-qualifying regional tournament Monday at Garden City and finished fifth, with two players qualifying for the state tournament at Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe.
The two girls who will make the trip to state are Hannah Thomas, who fired a 106, and Whitney Winter, who carded a 112.
In the regional tournament, the top three teams qualify for the state competition,  with the top five individuals not on those top three teams also getting an invitation to the party.
"I'm proud of the way the girls played today," said coach Jim Mapel. "These girls just started this year, and they played very well."
Dodge City's regional was located at Southwind Golf Course in Garden City, which proved to be a very difficult set-up for the participating golfers.
Besides Thomas and Winter, other finishers for the Demons include Alivia Owens (123), Alyssa Vasquez (139), Christina Clark (143) and Sarah Interman (163).
The state tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 17.
