The Dodge City Community College football squad traveled to Hutchinson on Saturday to take on the nationally ranked Blue Dragons and walked out with a 63-6 defeat.
The Conquistadors had no answer for a Hutchinson offense that has been firing on all cylinders for the past three games, scoring totals of 90, 69 and 63 points during that span.
Hutchinson outgained the Conqs 534-235, including a massive rushing gap — 240 net yards for Hutch and -1 net yards for DC3.
Dodge held the Blue Dragons to a Deveon Dinwiddle rushing touchdown in the first quarter, limiting the damage to a manageable 7-0 deficit.
But just like last week, the floodgates opened up in the second quarter.
The number-nine squad in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll rolled for 34 points during the second quarter, featuring two rushing scores, two passing touchdowns and an interception return for six points.
Dodge City would see its only points of the game during that 34-point scoring spurt, a Bryan Parnes 17-yard scoring strike to Logan Stephens out of Grinnell.
Parnes would finish the game 27 of 45 for 205 yards passing, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Other statistical leaders for the Conqs included Robert McWright on the ground (12 carries for 25 yards) and Stephens catching the ball (7 catches for 70 yards and the touchdown).
Leading the way on defense for Dodge were John Goetz with 14 tackles and Chris Lipscomb, who had 13 stops and a blocked extra point. Freshman defensive lineman Mike McAllister also had the lone Conq turnover, returning a Blue Dragon fumble 25 yards.
The loss drops Dodge City to 2-4 on the season and 2-3 in the conference.
The Conquistadors return home next weekend to take on Fort Scott in a favorable match-up of teams looking to get off two-game losing streaks.
