DCHS XC competes in Salina

The Dodge City High School cross-country teams competed in the Salina Invitational this past weekend as both squads prepare for the Western Athletic Conference championships Thursday in Dodge.
     The boys finished second overall out of nine teams with 43 points, while Hays was the next closest in third with 95 points.
     Oscar Carmona led the way for the Demons by finishing third with a time of 17:02. Luis and Anthony Carmona finished behind Oscar, as Luis came in fourth (17:05) and Anthony placed ninth (17:45). The rest of the team included Elder Colindres (14th - 17:55), Jonathan Rendon (16th - 18:00) and Austin Tremeyer (21st - 18:19).
     The team ran without varsity runner Layne Moe but still finished solid overall.
     "I was happy that all six finished in the top 21 and ran hard," said head coach Buc Bolmer. "It was a good finish to the regular season and now we will turn our focus on the WAC championship on Thursday."
     On the girls side, the Lady Demons managed a sixth-place finish out of eight school with 120 total team points.
     The squad was led by Erica Ramos, who completed the course in a time of 17:25, good enough for 17th overall.
     Following Ramos were teammates Suhei Calderon (21st - 17:29), Melitza Ramirez (24th - 17:36), Vanz DeLaCruz (29th - 17:45), Lucero Botello (34th - 17:55), Venencia Rivera (44th - 18:28) and Perla Neave (51st - 19:03).
