With season-opening, back-to-back home basketball victories under their belts, the Dodge City High School Red Demons hit the road Friday night.
Dodge City head coach Dennis Hamilton used a tennis analogy, when describing his team’s next competition: a non-conference game at Newton.
Tipoff is set for 20 minutes after the conclusion of the girls’ game, which starts at 6.
“You can basically say that we held serve at home and now it’s time to receive serve, so to speak,” Hamilton said of his team, ranked eighth in Class 6A in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association preseason poll. “We’re going on the road for the first time, and I think there is a lot of reasons for our kids to continue to play well.
“We got a little better Saturday (in the 60-49 win over Manhattan) than we were on Friday (a 47-46 triumph over Salina Central),” Hamilton said. “But two games are so far from making a season.
“It was good, but it was just one weekend. Now we’re ready for another weekend and it’s a little different scenario from the standpoint that we’re on the road.”
