It must have been the first night jitters Friday night for the Dodge City junior varsity boys basketball team. Because Saturday night, they were a different team as they beat the Manhattan Indians 39-27.
"It was good to get our first victory," junior varsity head coach Adam Hobbs said. "Guys played a lot harder and we had to get a lot of jitters out that first game.
"The guys were nervous and played a lot harder tonight though, and we executed a lot better, smarter with the ball."
Smarter with the ball was right as again, in the first quarter, DCHS (1-1) came out strong. They lead 20-15 at the half.
But this time, they held on for the whole game, never letting the Indians come close. The Demons held the Indians to only 12 points in the second half.
Several stood out to Hobbs after the first victory of the season.
"Terell Brown did an excellent job handling the pressure," Hobss said. "Josh Ginther also played good. Todd Middleton, really boxed out well and got a lot of good rebounds and played really hard for us."
Brown was the leading scorer for the Demons Saturday night, and also the only one in double digits. He had 15 points by the end of the night. Adley Davis followed with eight points and Ginther with six.
The Demons have some time off before a road game on Friday night.
"We are going to Newton next," Hobbs said. "Gotta get on the road and see how we do there."
