DCHS takes home trio of firsts

    The Dodge City High School Red Demons tennis team traveled to Liberal Tuesday to compete in the Western Athletic Conference tennis championships.
    The Demons placed second overall, with two individual players and one doubles team brought home WAC championships.
    "Overall, I'm really pleased with the girls' efforts today," Dodge City coach Tamie Preston said. "It's great to bring home three WAC championships."
    Dodge City’s Hannah Thomas played in the No. 1 singles spot and went 2-2 overall, placing third.
    Jenay Unruh placed first in the No. 2 singles spot. Unruh went 3-1 at the tournament. At the WAC championships, there is a No. 3 singles spot, which the Red Demons’ Kelly Brauer played in. She also brought home first place, going 2-1 overall.
    In doubles play, Tara Shubert and Kylie Newton played in the No. 1 spot, securing  the third WAC championship of the day. Schubert/Newton went 4-0.
In No. 2 doubles, Courtney McDaniels and Danielle Jones placed second after going 3-1.
    Dodge will head to regionals on Saturday in Great Bend.
