The Dodge City High School girls' golf team traveled to Great Bend on Tuesday for its final regular-season invitational.
At 165, Garden City took first place. Dodge City placed second with 175 and Hays was third at 193.
The Western Athletic Conference began a new points system last year to determine the WAC championship teams and individuals. Each school in the WAC hosts a tournament, and earns points based off team and individual scores, according to Dodge City coach Jim Mapel.
The points accumulate over the season, and the team and or individual with the most points is the WAC champion.
This year, Dodge City finished second behind Garden City.
The Red Demons had four players selected to the All-WAC team, including Friyana Shah (second), Brittany Waldman (fifth), Krystal Martinez (sixth) and Ali Bone (seventh),
"I'm very proud of the girls this year," Mapel said. "We were WAC Champions last year and I know the girls wanted a repeat, but Garden City has been tough to beat all year. The positive side of it though is that our team scores are better overall."
DCHS will travel to the Class 6A regional tournament on Monday in Wichita. The top three teams at regionals will then head to state tournament, which will be held in Dodge City this year.
"If we keep playing like we have been, I think we can make it to state," Mapel said. "We're going to take care of business and get there."
