     Timing is everything.
According to Red Demons volleyball coach Kate Szymczak and her team, Dodge City High School has come together at just the right time.
Just In time for the Western Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday in Garden City.
“We talked about the missing puzzle pieces and it’s all coming together right now,” Szymczak said. “It’s the right time, right at WAC when we need it to come together.
“At practices, we’ve got a new focus. We might not be pounding balls away but we might be running drills where we are all smiling and getting the job done.”
Szymczak said the smiles came once they hit their midseason milestone of finding a better focus as a team. They are focusing more on remaining a team and less on the fundamentals.
Szymczak says she isn’t worried about spending less time on those fundamentals because she knows her team can step up and bring out the fundamentals when it’s time. She knows they are going to bring home the WAC championship.
The team captains are aware of the new-found focus.
“I think we have a really great chance of winning WAC,” senior team captain Emily Scheck said. “We’re playing our best volleyball right now. If we continue you that, we definitely have a good chance at being WAC champs.”
