In triple overtime, Shawnee Mission South High School outlasted Wichita East 74-68 in a Tournament of Champions losers’ bracket thriller Friday afternoon.
South guard Will Spradling simply would not let the Raiders lose. A Kansas State University early signee, Spradling scored half of his game-high 30 points in the trio of extra periods at the Dodge City Civic Center.
“He put us on his back,” Shawnee Mission South coach Brett McFall said. “When he wasn’t scoring, he was creating and distributing to people and making his free throws down the stretch.
“He just decided that he was going to take it over.”
Spradling’s overtime flourish offset the three-pronged Blue Aces scoring attack of Nathan Jackson (21 points), Jalen Love (14 points) and Randall Rogers (100 points.
Jackson was Action Jackson for the Blue Aces, hitting 7 of 10 shots from the floor, including 3-for-3 on 3s.

South is ranked No. 10 in the latest poll.
Spradling had four points in the third OT, though he continually made big plays throughout the overtime sessions.
“I definitely don’t like losing,” Spradling said, “and I felt like I needed to step up and take over. We decided to bear down and make some stops as a team and we knocked down some big shots.”
South had a chance to win the game in the second extra session after Spradling came up with the ball on a scramble, but the Raiders had a pass on the wing knocked out of bounds. A lob to Spradling on the inbounds play with 0.9 seconds left was intercepted underneath the basket by Ja’ln Williams, forcing a third overtime.
