The Dodge High baseball team traveled to Great Bend Friday for a tri with the Panthers and the Hutchinson Salthawks.
The Red Demons dropped both games.
In game one, the Panthers won 7-1.
“We gave a few runs away early, got in a hole and our sticks couldn’t answer,” coach John Neill said.
The losing pitcher was Jordan Slaton. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits, five earned runs and six walks.
The Demons only had two hits. Ryan Scheck drove in the Demons’ lone run.
In game two, the Salthawks prevailed 3-1.
Corey Santana picked up the loss. He pitched six innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs.
“Corey did a great job pitching,” Neill said. “He got them to hit into ground balls, and we played defense real well behind him.”
The Demons were unable to get anything going at the plate, though.
Slaton had the Demons’ best hitting performance, going 2-3 at the plate.
“We did a good job playing defense and making the plays we had to,” Neill said. “The big deal in this game was we left too many runners in scoring position.”
The Demons were going to finish their game with Hays Friday night at Demon Field. The game had not ended by press time.
