The Dodge City High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team might have it made this season. The have a whole team full of talent, which showed when they beat the Salina Central Mustangs friday night 45-29.
The Lady Demons (1-0) came out aggressive in the first half ready to win. Although it was a low-scoring first quarter, they proved they could win the game. They lead 9-5 at the end of the first.
It was the second quarter, when they really started to demolish the Mustangs. Sophomore Ashley Stephenson was the leading scorer of the second quarter, and the game. Her seven points in the second quarter gave them a 21-8 lead going in to half time.
JV head coach Tyson Schroeder said he felt positive about the win, but knows there can still be improvements.
"I thought there were times we looked a little sloppy but that's to be expected in the beginning of the season," Schroeder said. "We're going to polish some things up and continue to improve.
"Hopefully we'll be able to put a bunch of these girls into the varsity game, which we already have, and they'll be able to contribute some good minutes."
