Dodge City softball team wins USSSA Masters tournament

Dodge City —

    The Dodge CityBudweiser USSSA Men's Masters spftball team captured its 17th straight USSSA Masters state tournament Aug. 23. Dodge City Budweiser beat another team from Dodge, B&E Waste, in the double elimination finals.
    The first game was a 16-1 victory for the Budmen, and the second was completed with a 21-7 margin. Dodge City Budweiser's Marv Billings won the tournament MVP award.
    Steve Leake wwas the home run leader for the weekend, while Larry Cole was the leading hitter for average. Butch Schlesener and Don Riedel were also named to the all-tournament team.
    Three members of the B&E Waste team were also named to the all-tournament team: Tim Herrera, Stu Chance anf Ron Herman.
    Along with its 17 straight USSSA Masters wins, Dodge City Budweiser has also won three ASA Masters for a total of 20 state championships. The team won the USSSA age 45-and-over World Championships in 2003 and 2006 as well.
    Kent Bailey has coached the team since its inception.
