They just needed some time.
The Dodge City junior varsity Red Demons gave up an early goal to the Hays High Indians, but came back to win 5-1.
"I thought we came out a little flat, and so we took some players out and told them to get a little more aggressive," coach Virgil Hutchcraft said. "After that, they took it to heart and went after them."
And did they ever.
Hays scored with 15:36 left in the first half, but the Demons answered right back less than a minute later with a goal by Daniel Duque.
After that, the Indians didn't stand a chance.
Macauley Vimiero scored with 11:32 left in the half and only 20 seconds later, they did it again with a first goal by Carlos Luna.
By that time, the Demons were leading 3-1 but just before half time, Luna scored again, giving them a 4-1 lead at the half.
Half-time didn't slow the Demons down one bit.
With 13:37 left in the game, Rene Yeverino scored the final goal of the game.
"Five-to-one, you can't complain about that," Hutchcraft said. "A lot of the players are stepping up and showing that they want to play at the next level. I'm very happy about that."
A win over the Hays High Indians gives the j.v. team a record of 6-2-2. They will look for another win over Wichita Heights on Thursday.
