The Dodge City Community College men’s golf squad held on for a one-stroke victory Monday at the Hesston Invitational to maintain its lead in the Jayhawk Conference over Hutchinson.
DC3 came out swinging during the first round, shooting a tournament low 288 with Hutchinson trailing the Conqs by 11.
But round two was a different story.
Hutchinson took advantage of every Conquistador mistake, erasing that 11-shot deficit with a second-round team total of 291.
However, Dodge City did just what it needed to do — shoot one shot better than second with a team total of 301 and escape Hesston with the tournament crown.
With this KJCCC tournament win, the Conqs continue to lead the conference with 29 team points, thanks to two conference event wins and a second place-finish. Hutchinson is breathing down their neck with 27 total team points.
