The Dodge City Red Demon Football program received its district assignment for the next two-year cycle from the KSHSAA today in Salina.
Dodge City will remain in District 8 and will compete with Garden City, Maize, and Hutchinson for the two playoff spots awarded each district.
Hutchinson was a long time District 8 participant until they moved to 5A for the past four years. Hutchinson will be replacing Goddard in the District after the Goddard school district split into two 5A high schools.
In addition to the change in district opponents, the Red Demons also added the defending state champion – Wichita Heights – to the 2012 and 2013 schedules.
The Red Demons will play one of the toughest schedules in the state - a tribute to the strength, stability, and tradition of the program.
Besides Goddard, Blue Valley West also dropped from 6A to 5A which moved Gardner-Edgerton up to 6A, as well. Gardner-Edgerton will play Olathe North, Olathe Northwest, and Olathe South in a very competitive northeast Kansas district.
