Demon tennis takes 2nd in Hutch

The Dodge City High School Red Demon tennis team placed second in a six-team round robin in Hutchinson Thursday. Only the host team scored better than the Demons, and Newton placed third.
    Melissa Roetzer took third in No. 1 singles play and went 3-2 in her five matches. Danielle Jones went 4-1 in No. 2 singles competition, which was good enough for second place on the day.
    The No. 1 doubles team of Jenay Unruh and Tara Schubert tied for second place with their 3-1 record in the day's matches. Taylor Shrader and Kylie Newton took second place in No. 2 doubles competition with their 4-1 record on the day.    
    The Western Athletic Conference tournament takes place Monday. The tournament that decides the conference champion will be hosted this year by Garden City and will get underway at 10 a.m.
