The Dodge City Junior Rangers baseball team won the American Legion Zone 7 championship Thursday by beating Hays twice at Demon Field. The Junior Rangers won 8-0 and 10-0 respectively in games one and two.
In game one, Ty Thomas pitched the complete game shutout and struck out six while only giving up two hits in the five-inning game. American Legion rules state that if a team is up 10 runs after four innings or eight after five, the game is over.
Steven Mills went 1-1 with three walks, a double and two RBIs while Zach Harvey went 1-3 with three RBIs. In the second game Ranger pitcher Josh Ginther shut Hays out for the win.
The Junior Rangers will play in the American Legion state tournament starting Friday July 25 in Pratt. Great Bend is the host team for the double-elimination tournament.
The Junior Rangers' first game will start at 6:30 p.m. Friday July 25 against an opponent to be determined.
