Emily Scheck, a student-athlete at Dodge City High School, is expected to fill a void at setter for the Pratt Community College volleyball team as she signed a letter of intent on Wednesday.
Scheck said she had spent most of her six-year volleyball career playing middle blocker, but got more playtime at setter the last two years.
"She is very athletic, she is very competitive and she is very intelligent," said Pratt Community College head coach Patrick Hall. "She is an excellent volleyball player.
“I think all those assets are going to help our program get to the next step, which for us, means going to nationals."
Scheck helped Dodge City High School win the Western Athletic Conference with a 21-10 overall record, including a 3-1 conference mark.
Her contributions to the team's success helped her being named first team all-conference.
Pratt was not the only school seeking Scheck, as she said she had also received offers from Dodge City and Seward County, along with Ottawa University and Sterling College.
After watching  Pratt play, the team is, according to Scheck,  “just really together; they all look like they are on the same page.
"If they have any problems you would never know about it because they must keep it off the court.”
She also was on the softball team and played basketball her freshman year.
"As a father I think volleyball is one of the best sports for teamwork and for morale, a team building purpose" said Dennis Scheck, her father.
