The Dodge City High School boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Hays High Invitational on Thursday. The boys finished 1st in the meet with 46 points followed by Junction City, 2nd, with 85 points, Liberal was 3rd with 89 points, Hays 4th, Garden City 5th, Great Bend 6th and Salina South 7th.
Coach Buc Bolmer said he was pleased with the boys effort today.
“Everyone ran strong, and they all know they still have more to give," he said. "We will keep working on getting stronger and better."
The team was led by Oscar Carmona finishing 2nd, followed by Luis Carmona in 4th, Anthony Carmona in 11th, Elder Colindres in 13th, Jonthan Rendon in 16th, Layne Moe in 20th and Austin Tiemeyer in 24th.
The JV also ran good this meet with 4 in the top 25. Varsity compete a week from Saturday at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence and JV team will be running at Ulysses on Monday.
Coach Brian Lenz was happy with the way his JV girls stepped into Varsity positions to run today.
“The girls team were missing some of their top runners so it gave some of the JV girls a chance to step up and compete in a varsity race. Overall we had a good meet,” Lenz said.
The top runner for Dodge was Melitza Ramirez finishing 19th, followed by Vanessa Delacruz in 26th, Venencia Rivera finished 30th, Johana Villalba was 36th, Vanessa Perez finished 42nd and Ruth Palacios was 43rd. The girls team placed 6th.
They will compete at Ulysses on Monday.
