GREAT BEND — For the second game in a row, Dodge City High School senior guard Valerie Ortiz carried the Red Demons offensively.
Fresh off a 20-point performance on Tuesday during a 58-30 win over Maize South.
In a 45-21 road win over Great Bend, Ortiz pumped in 23 points to lead the slow-starting Red Demons, who led 15-14 at halftime before blowing Great Bend out of its own gym in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 30-7 in the second half.
Ortiz hit 7 of 13 field goals and 7 of 9 free throws for her point total. It included 2-for-4 3-point accuracy.
The Red Demons improved their record to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Great Bend dropped to 3-5, 0-3.
Dodge City shot 48.6 percent from the floor, while limiting the Panthers to 8-for-34 accuracy (23.5 percent).
The Lady Panthers also missed all of their 12 attempts from beyond the arc.
