With a key Western Athletic Conference game looming Thursday at Memorial Stadium against Garden City, the Dodge City High School varsity soccer team geared up for that matchup at home against Thomas More Prep-Marian (Hays).

Goals came at a premium Tuesday for the Red Demons against TMP-Marian, but they got first-half goals from Ivan Peralta and Carlos Luna and held on for a 2-0 victory. Dodge, which improved to 7-2 overall, sits in second place in the WAC at 3-1, trailing only unbeaten Liberal (4-0).

Red Demons goalkeeper Cesar Carmona kept TMP-Marian off the scoreboard.

"It was a struggle for us offensively, but defensively, I thought we played pretty well," Dodge City head coach Virgil Hutchcraft said. "Cesar did a good job at the net, although we didn't give (TMP-Marian) very many chances.

In the junior varsity match, Dodge City improved to 4-1-2 on the season with a 6-0 victory over TMP-Marian.

Oscar Ramirez and Carlos Luna each had two goals to lead Dodge. Rene Rodriguez and Macauley Vimiero each added a goal.

The Red Demons mounted a 4-0 lead at intermission.
