This past weekend, the Dodge City High School bowling squad kicked off their season with an apperance in the Bishop-Carroll Bowling Invitational in Wichita. In all there were 26 teams bowling in the baker's style invite.
The bakers format requires each bowler to alternate frames that they bowl. All five will take turns bowling two frames per game, with the first bowling frames one and five, the second bowling two and six, and so on.
The first ten games used a round robin tournament to determine seeding for the remainder of the invite.
The Demon boys finished 10th overall, going 5-7 during their matches. Team members were Tanner Dalton, Patrick Bilslend, Christopher Herbert, Daniel Calvin, Dylan Woods, and Kaden Herbert.
As for the Lady Demon bowlers, they wound up in 17th, also going 5-7 on the day. Team members include Chantel Smith, Elizabeth Del Real, Samantha Reyes, Bridgett Schlereth, Amanda Simmons, and Charity Blattner.
"This is one of the toughest tournaments in the State. The boys got off to a great start, struggled in games 3-7 and then battled back finishing strong for a respectable 10th place finish," said head coach Tyson Clark. "Five of six girls had never bowled a varsity tournament and handled the atmosphere very well, bowling very consistent all day.  Coach Hutchcraft and myself were very pleased with how the kids competed and were able to carry over things they were are working on in practice to competition."
Next, the Demons opened up their Western Athletic Conference schedule with a dual against Great Bend. The boys went 1-6 while the girls went 0-7.
They will compete in five more WAC matches, playing home and road contests with Great Bend, Garden City and Liberal.
They will next be in action on Jan. 16 in Liberal.
