DODGE CITY —

Jarret Tagtmeyer oozes talent on the golf course, and that talent leads to victory more often than not.
However, whether it's often or not, Tagtmeyer struggles with consistency.
"I want to improve my consistency," the Dodge High golfer said. "I go up and down or I can't finish a round."
For anyone with future golf dreams, this could be a problem. But Tagtmeyer isn't just anyone.
The Red Demon senior has signed to play golf under Casey Malek at Dodge City Community College next season.
At DCCC, Tagtmeyer can take his game to new heights, and that's what excites him.
"I thought coach Malek had a lot of motivation for me to get better," he said. "That's the most important thing for me, that a coach can make me feel like he'll do a lot for me."
Malek said the first thing to know about Tagtmeyer is he wants to be a better player.
"The important thing is he may be one of the most talented players to come out of this program in the 19 years I've been here," Malek said. "He's shot good numbers with, by his own admission, little effort."
Malek said the amount of work the Conquistadors do will help Tagtmeyer take his game to new heights.
Tagtmeyer said, "I plan to continue playing golf after junior college. If I want to do that, playing for him (Malek) is the way to go."
Malek said he knows Tagtmeyer wants to play at the highest level.
"He said to me 'Coach, I want someone that can push me,'" Malek said. "His future is so bright in golf."
Malek said he was impressed with Tagtmeyer when he met him. He said Tagtmeyer never took his eye off the coach, and he asked questions about getting better.
"He's excited to come play for us," Malek said. "He has a tremendous amount of talent."
Tagtmeyer remains calm on the golf course, and that may be his biggest asset aside from his talent.
"My mental process is always in the game," Tagtmeyer said. "I get frustrated, but I don't blow up on the course."
Tagtmeyer's also excited about the team's overall outlook.
"I know a lot of the guys there," he said. "I think next year, we could be tops."
While golf is an individual sport, Tagtmeyer said he wants to do whatever he can to help the team be number one.
Malek said, "I think he'll fit in with the other returners. We'll definitely make him a better golfer."
