SCOTT CITY — In a non-conference wrestling dual Thursday night, Scott City High School squeezed out a 30-29 win over Dodge City.
“Even though we didn’t come out with the win, we were really happy about the way we wrestled,” DCHS coach Lars Lueders said. “We wrestled the way we envision this program to wrestle for years to come.
“We emphasize an in-your-face aggressive style of wrestling. That was on full display against Scott City.”
Three Red Demons won by decision: Dodge City’s Levi Shirley (125) won by decision over Alex Garcia, 8-6;
Hunter Edwards (140) won by decision, defeating Dillon Stucky, 5-1; and Justin Blundell won by decision over Dakota Hayes.
Dodge’s Eli Evinger (171) won by major decision over Matt Clinton, 15-7; the Demons’ Jesse Trent (285) won by major decision over Michael McEarchen, 10-1.
“We came out aggressive and in position,” Lueders said. “It was a real exciting dual meet to be a part of. “Every match was exciting to coach and I’m sure they were exciting to watch from the stands.”
A noticeable absence for the Demons was Jace Banner (189), the top-ranked wrestler in Class 6A.
Banner, who has missed the last couple tournaments, is nursing a slight knee injury and might sit out until regional competiton comes around.
