They've already made school history.
Tonight at 6, the Dodge City High School varsity soccer team will try to continue their run in the first round of Class 6A regionals against Haysville-Campus.
The Demons are 13-3 overall, which is the best regular-season record in DCHS history.
The best overall record is 14-4, which if the Demons make it through regionals and onto sub-state and state, they can easily beat it.
Even the team knows how well they've done this season compared to the past.
"We did pretty good this season," Aaron Arredondo said. "We won some pretty tough games against Maize and Liberal and we won WAC after nine years. That is something to be proud of."
DCHS coach Virgil Hutchcraft said he is proud of how far they've come as well.
"Awesome season, so far," Hutchcraft said. "We could have had one or two more games and would have been first in our region but to be second is very satisfying too, that's a first for us as well."
The Demons are seeded No. 2 out of 12 in the South Central Regional. They are ranked ninth overall in the state.
They meet the Haysville-Campus Colts, who are seeded 11th with their season record of 2-13-1.
"We should be confident, but I don't want us to be over confident" Hutchcraft said about the matchup. "On paper it looks like it should be an easy win, but at this point in the season, I doubt that anything will be easy.
“We are going to have to work hard and play as a team. We have to play the game."
Teammate Victor Millan even knows the importance of teamwork.
"So far, we've done pretty good," Millan said. "We've been working as a team which got us farther. I think we'll take regionals. Our team is pretty good. We are playing as a group and not individuals. We'll come out winning."
Hutchcraft will be looking to the Demons to continue playing as a team to get them through the next few games.
"We are a team, so the entire team needs to show up and be ready to play," Hutchcraft said. "Our forwards, either one of them can score and it just seems like it's not always at the same time.
“In the middle, Victor Rojas has really been turning it on lately and so has Sebastian Wevers. In the back, everybody has been strong and they have been the entire season. It's a pleasure to have that defense as strong as it is."
Even teammate Cesar Carmona has noticed the strong defense.
"Our defense is solid and our offense have scored a lot of important goals," Carmona said.
Carmona also said that he feels that playing at home today will be an advantage, having the support from their fans.
In Demons history, the DCHS soccer team has never made it to state.
But not this year. They have their sights set on state.
"One of our goals all season long has been to make it to state," Hutchcraft said "We need to win these two regional games, and then make it to sub-state and make it to state where we want to be."
