Slow-starting Dodge City High School fell behind Great Bend by five points at halftime Friday night at the DCHS Field House.
These Red Demons are the Western Athletic Conference unbeaten leaders, though, so you knew they had a bounce-back in them.
Dodge City outscored the Lady Panthers 13-4 in the third quarter and went on to register a 45-35 victory.
The Red Demons, 15-3, 6-0 WAC, knocked three crucial 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to put Great Bend out of arm’s reach.
Leading 30-28 with 5:32 left, DCHS guard Valerie Ortiz knocked down a trifecta to give the Demons a 33-28 lead.
But after the Lady Panthers tied the game at 33 with a 3-pointer of their own, Brenna Briggs hit a 3-point hit at the 4:09 mark before Ortiz added a 3 at the 3:39 to push the margin to 39-33 and put the Demons over the top.
Codi Ehrlich also had a big 3-pointer for the Demons in the third quarter.
