If you didn't notice this year, the Dodge City Community College football team was a team that will go down in the history books — literally.
Recently, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference released their all-conference team and a slew of Conqs found their way onto the roster.
Making the second team was wide receiver Logan Stephens (WR), Andrew Vaughn (OL), Bryan Parnes (QB), Marcus Hardison (DE) and C.J. Overton (LB).
Six more Dodge players earned honorable mention spots, including Evan Loomis (TE), Bryson McCluskey (OL), John Goetz (LB), Bradley Halblieb (LB), DeShawn Smith (CB) and Chris Lipscomb (DB).
Perhaps the biggest honor goes to head coach Bob Majeski, who was voted as the 2011 KJCCC Coach of the Year after leading the Conqs to their first playoff appearance since 2005 and their first victory over Garden City since 1986.
This is Majeski's fourth year with the Conq football program after coming to Dodge from Coffeyville Community College, where he spent two years as their defensive coordinator.
He is originally from Omaha, Neb., and played collegiate football for Kansas State.
Not only did the Conqs land a multitude of players on the all-conference team, the squad shattered school records left and right during their run to the playoffs this season.
To kick things off, sophomore quarterback Bryan Parnes virtually destroyed most of the passing records for a season when it comes to attempts and completions. His 56 pass attempt game against Butler broke the old record of 51, and his total for the season was 436 attempts, blowing past the previous mark of 330 in a year.
As for completions, Parnes broke the record for completed throws in a game with 31 against Air Force Prep, and his 234 for the season demolished the previous mark of 176.
Logan Stephens, who was on the receiving end of many of Parnes' passes, set the record for catches in a season with 77, squeaking by the old record of 69 by Gerald Tate in 2005.
His 77 caches in 10 games is also good enough to set the mark for catches per game for the season and catches per game for a career, both at 7.7 per contest. This smashes the previous standard of 5.77, set by Jeron Harvey in 2004.
He also broke the record for receiving yards in a game when he exploded for 258 in that breakout win against Garden City. His 977 yards total for 2011 are also new highs.
On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore Chris Lipscomb set the bar for most tackles in a season with 135, 11 more than the previous high at DC3.
Sophomore Bradley Halblieb established a new mark for tackles in a career with 176, a record previously held by Nate Harris (2003-2004) and Jared Loomis (2008-2009) when they had 167 stops.
Other offensive records set this season include most plays in a game (104 against Butler), most first downs in a game (33 against Highland), most passes attempted and completed during a game (33 completions and 70 attempts against Butler), season records for passing attempts (489), completions (262) and passing yards (2699).
