After falling to rival Garden City last week, the Dodge City High Red Demon soccer team rebounded for a 2-0 win Tuesday night on the road at Hays.
The game, which featured blustery conditions, wreaked havoc on both sides and caused the teams to play more team possession soccer — a game the Demons pride themselves on.
Late in the first half, with just under four minutes to play, Jovanny Bonilla fed freshman Isaac Palma for the first Demon goal of the night. Palma was called up to the varsity squad by Head Coach Virgil Hutchcraft based on the recommendation of his assistant coaches.
Despite facing a gusty 20-mph wind in the first half, the Demons walked away up 1-0.
It didn't take long for the fireworks to happen in the second half, as Rene Yeverino would find Oscar Ramirez two minutes in for the Demons' second goal. It was enough to give Hutchcraft's squad the 2-0 victory.
"I'm pleased with the effort," Hutchcraft said. "We had a lot of shots in the second half that just didn't end up being goals. We need to work on finishing, but we're back on the winning track."
Next up for DCHS is a meeting with Wichita Heights Thursday night on the road.
