The end of the season is in sight for the Dodge City Community College women's soccer team and they can see a regional berth awaiting them on the horizon if they can win two more games.  Unfortunately, tonight wasn't the night for them to make that vision a reality.
On a day when the teams were forced to play one half into a fierce 20-30 mile per hour headwind, the Conqs fell behind early with the wind in their face and failed to utilize the breezy advantage to their favor in the second half.
The Conqs were playing without key team player Cassie Coop out of Sandy, Utah. She had spent the previous night in the hospital and could not join the squad for their contest against Neosho.
Head Coach Tim Romanello expressed the bind his team was put in without Coop.
"There are two players on our team that we just can not play without," Romanello   said. "Those two are Cassie (Coop) and Lety Ibarra. Today just wasn't our day."
Without the service of their talented midfielder, the Neosho defense was free to surround Ibarra with coverage throughout the entire game, rarely letting her break through with the ball.
DC3 played first into the stiff breeze and managed to keep their possession game fairly clean, but having the ball in their own end proved to be the fatal blow as Neosho was able to put in two past keeper Kristin Cook.
With the wind at their back in the second half, the girls were unable to muster any type of offensive threat, getting no more than two or three shots on goal for the entire 90 minutes.
The loss sends the Conqs back to 5-9 overall, but still remain two wins away from securing the number eight seed in the region for playoffs.
Romanello likens his teams chances to move past this loss due to the timing of his team's final three regular season games.
"The good thing about our schedule is we have a quick turnaround, so we can put this behind us," Romanello said. "It's got to be better than today if we want to win."
Next up for the girls is a home game against Hesston on Friday.
