It was "Dig Pink" night inside the Dodge City Community College gym and those in attendance saw a dominating performance by the Conquistador volleyball team, defeating Garden City 25-13, 25-8, 25-11.
Coming off a five-set victory over Colby last week, the squad seems to be finding their groove with the regional tournament set to begin on Halloween night.
Dodge began the game firing on all cylinders, rushing out to an early lead, one the Broncbusters could not overcome.
Thanks to the play of libero Celia Martin and setter Rae Mulitalo, the Conqs cruised to a set one win.
It was more of the same in the second set as the teams switched sides. Hitting errors doomed the Broncs, allowing Dodge to pull away for the 25-8 set two win.
In an effort to get the crowd into the "Dig Pink" mood, an event was set up between the second and third sets where people in the audience could serve the ball over the net and if it hit a shirt lying on the ground, the lucky patron would receive the prize they just struck.
The Conqs would come out in the third and final set and conitnued their dominance, striking winners and keeping the Broncs on their heels.
For head coach Stephano Anthemides, he felt it was this type of execution that allowed his team to win so easily.
"I believe we could've played a lot better," Anthemides said. "We did not pass the ball very well, but when we attacked we frustrated them, causing them to make a lot of errors (passing and blocking), which helped us out."
The victory over Garden pushes the Conqs back to .500 on the season at 16-16 with two more matches left before the regional tournament, including their next game at home against Pratt on Oct. 20.
The team will be honoring their sophomore players during their final home matchup.
