TOPEKA —
Another brigade of soldiers from Fort Riley has been given its orders to deploy to Iraq.
The 2nd Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division was officially notified Monday that it was among the units to be deployed later this year. In all, the Pentagon notified one division headquarters and seven brigades, about 25,000 soldiers, that they would be deploying.
The Fort Riley brigade recently began the final phase of its deployment training, heading to the National Training Center in California. The brigade will return in June.
Some 3,500 Fort Riley soldiers are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, including the 1st Division’s combat aviation brigade. The 4th Brigade returned in April after 15 months in Iraq.
